The Greenane Centre is excited to launch its first 2 Day Trauma Conference: Trauma-Informed Language and Multisensory Approaches in Therapeutic Practice: Reflections, Insights and Skill Development. Led by Dr. Karen Treisman, this two day conference in October is designed for professionals looking to expand their knowledge of Trauma-Informed therapy through multi-sensory approaches.

Meet The Presenter

Dr Karen Treisman

Dr Karen Treisman, MBE, is an award winning, world-renowned Clinical Psychologist, Trauma Specialist, TEDx Speaker, Trainer, Author and Clinical Supervisor. Awarded the Psychology Professional of the Year Award for Excellence in Attachment and Trauma 2018 and The Youth Psychology Professional of the Year Award 2020.

Dr Karen Treisman is the Founder of Safe Hands, Thinking Minds, an organisation that specialises in disrupted attachment, developmental and relational trauma. She is a bestselling author of several books – The Therapeutic Treasure Box for Developmental Trauma, The Treasure Box for Creating Trauma-Informed Organisations and Trauma Informed Health Care. In addition, she has authored six Children’s books, along with five sets of Therapeutic Card Decks.

Day One

10:00am – 5:00pm

Trauma Informed Language: A Powerful and Thought-Provoking Training on The Power of Language, the Words we Use, and How we Story People.

Day one of our training conference promises to be a powerful and thought-provoking day in which we will reflect on the power of the words we use and how we use them. This workshop will explore and enable participants to reflect on the words we use in conversations, in therapy, in our notes/recordings/ logs, in meetings & consultations. There will be a key focus on the language and the terms we use to Story People focusing on how the terms we use can influence and impact our and others’ bias, prejudice, attitude and actions, Karen will maintain a focus on attentional and confirmation biases through the lens of diagnostic overshadowing.

In addition, Karen will highlight how and why our words can be Trauma Inducing or Trauma Reducing, holding in mind that every interaction is an intervention. We will also consider some of the ways that trauma can impact speech and language, as well as emotional literacy and emotional vocabulary. There will be opportunities to reflect, share thoughts and discuss with others in groups.  Attendees will develop an increased sensitivity and awareness to the power of language; as well as some tangible examples and ways which we can use language more intentionality through a trauma informed lens.

Day Two

Exploring the multi-sensory impact of Relational and Developmental Trauma: A highly engaging and interactive workshop focusing on embodying a multi-sensory approach in clinical practice.

Day two of our training conference will provide participants with an engaging and dynamic learning experience. Karen will firstly explore the multi- sensory impact of relational and developmental trauma with a focus on deepening participants understanding of how relational and developmental trauma can impact people’s sensory world, their body, their relationship to touch and their immune system. Karen will highlight the somatic and multisensory impact of relational and developmental trauma through engaging stories, examples and imagery.

Additionally, Karen will facilitate a range of experiential and powerful exercises enabling participants to embody and deepen their understanding of Relational and Developmental Trauma, approaching interventions through a multisensory and co-regulation framework. There will be a key focus on Trauma Informed congruent interactions and the authentic modeling of being meaningful and nuanced. Participants will develop a deep appreciation and increased understanding of the multi-sensory and body-based impact of relational and developmental trauma along with a range of tangible and concrete ways to integrate this understanding into their practice.
